Mortals' Masquerade
by
Andrea Tillmanns
Only one wore his human face.

At the masked ball, witches and wizards, vampires and werewolves, demons and lords of hell could be seen in their costumes. The spooky characters danced, drank and had fun. Only one stood on the sidelines and watched, his human face strangely conspicuous among all the masked figures.

At midnight, in keeping with tradition, the masks were removed. And while everyone turned back into humans, one took off his human face and cracked out of his human shell, drinking in the fear of death that surrounded him until there was nobody left to fear him.
